Il Marroneto

The winery

The wines produced by Alessandro Muri and his son Iacopo are rare masterpieces. The internationally acclaimed winery produces authentic traditional wines on just a few hectares of land. The winemaking methods are based on those practiced by the great old winemakers of Montalcino. The results are unique in their intensity, liveliness, and impressive elegance.

The history of Il Marroneto began in 1974 in two small rooms of a historic building dating back to 1246. An old drying room for marroni (chestnuts), where the Mori family began producing their Brunello, partly for fun and partly out of passion.

Between 1975 and 1984, the Mori family planted the first vineyards just below the town of Montalcino, on the climatically privileged and elevated north side of the town. The renowned winemakers Mario Cortevesio and Giulio Gambelli helped with their fundamental know-how to set a course early on that was oriented toward originality and quality.
