The Winery

The Montevertine winery is located in the heart of Tuscany, in Radda between Florence and Siena. Wine has been produced here since the 11th century and since Sergio Manetti bought the vineyards around the estate in 1967, Montevertine has been home to some magical wines of legendary reputation.

The estate’s vineyards are located at an altitude of 450 metres and are managed organically. The owner, Martino Manetti, prioritises the quality of his wines over certifications or organic seals. Approximately 90% of the vineyard is Sangiovese. In addition there are about 10% Canaiolo and Colorino, the classic Cuvee partners of Sangiovese.

The wine-making is traditional in the best sense of the word, with up to 35 days of spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks; a method that is once again on the rise. On Montevertine this practice  never went out of fashion, and dates back to the late 60s. Depending on the wine, further ageing takes place in large old “botti” of Slavonian oak or in 1-7 year old barrique barrels of French oak.

The wines

The results are wines of great clarity, elegance, complexity and longevity. For us this represents the perfect expression of Sangiovese.
